Strolling Under the Skin

This video contains some of the most fascinating images of living fascia ever developed. Dr. Jean Claude Guimberteau is a plastic and hand surgeon who has been researching the body's 'sliding system' that allows fascial planes to move on each other. The beauty and excitement of this film is that it is living fascia in a living person, and so beautifully filmed that no one -- lay or practitioner -- can see this video unmoved. The sheer poetry of the images is enough, but you also learn how the collagen, ground substance water and fat work together to make the 'sliding system' -- the body's interconnected system of loose connective tissue.

The world lying beneath the skin remains to be discovered...

...to be discovered by scientists because apart from a few notions evidenced at the beginning of the 20th century, the relationships between the organic structures and how they slide together are poorly understood.

...to be discovered also by the layman, who will come upon a world of colors, changing structures, a world constantly adapting, whose ultimate goal is to provide flexibility, allow movement and maintain equilibrium.

For over half a century, research has neglected these territories. Let's simply contemplate these structures that are our very make-up... and ponder upon them.

Jean-Claude Guimberteau was born in 1947. He is co-founder and scientific director of the Institut Aquitain de la Main. He is a member of the French Surgery Academy and Director of Research a the "Société Française de Chirurgie Plastique Reconstructrice et Esthétique."

The Skin Excrusion

This film is the continuation of the previous one "Strolling under the skin" which has shown a subcutaneous multifibrillar architecture enclosing microvolumes called microvacuoles and which as they are piled up not only ensured the shape but also the mobility, the adaptability and resistance to the gravitational force.

The skin, boundary of this optimal efficiency world since it allows life through this fractal and chaotic structure, has not been really studied in its morphodynamic aspect and chiefly in its continuity with the rest of the body. The aim of this film and always thanks to endoscopic observations carried on the living matter, during surgeries to show the existence of mobility mechanism, the architectural organisation in the epidermis, dermis and hypoderm.

A vision of the body organisation in complete continuity through this inner architectural, will lead to new reflexions.
